NWP Facilities
Portadown Facility
With the increasing demand for services provided by NWP and the expectation of further regulations through EU legislation, NWP has had to come up with more efficient ways of transferring waste throughout Ireland. The answer has come in the form of a new transfer site based in Portadown on ten acres of land. The site enables NWP to locate waste shipments centrally which can then be transferred to their recycling facilities using larger containers.
By doing so, NWP have been able to reduce the number of vehicles they have on the road by 40% and at the same time increase their capacity to transfer waste from 8 tonne to 25 tonne loads. In the long term NWP aim to pass these savings onto their customers.
Keady Facility
NWP has invested in a recent multi-million pound revamp of their recycling facilities in Keady using the latest recycling technology. This venture signals the development of their work beyond traditional ‘green waste’. The service enables businesses and councils across Northern Ireland to meet the growing number of European regulations on organic, electronic and electrical waste.
Belfast / Colin Glen Facility
NWP has ambitious plans for the future with the proposed introduction of an innovative recycling plant in Belfast’s Colin Glen mountain site. It is expected that the facility, using state of the art in-vessel composting technology, will recycle over 80,000 tonnes of waste per annum.
This new service will enable NWP to shorten the natural composting cycle by processing the compost within a closed vessel system. This in turn will increase NWP’s recycling capacity throughout Ireland.
The pioneering technology was introduced to NWP during a study visit to Holland and the main benefit is that it places a huge focus on environmental control.
