NWP is helping fourteen councils to meet the 40% targets set for recycling and composing of household waste by 2010. Businesses crippled by the waste disposal costs are also looking to NWP to generate cost savings on waste disposal and improve their environmental practice.

Young Ciaran Crawford demonstrates that the first stage in the recycling process starts by depositing garden clippings in the brown bin which have been provided by the Council. |
The next stage in the recycling process is for the Craigavon Borough Council to collect the waste stored in the brown bins. |
The green waste is transported to NWP recycling facilities where it is broken down using a shredding machine in preparation for a procedure known as in-vessel composting. |

NWP produce high quality compost from garden clippings collected from local authorities throughout Northern Ireland. The compost produced is called Rosey Lee Organic Compost and is currently stocked in over forty garden centres throughout Ireland. NWP is the first company in Ireland to receive the highly coveted seal of approval for Rosey Lee Organic Compost - BSI PAS 100 certified from the UK Composting Association. NWP has surpassed compost producers throughout the UK to pick up a prestigious award for excellence in marketing for their compost product Rosey Lee Organic Compost from the UK Composting Association.
Recycling of Electrical and Electronic Goods
The recent European WEEE directive – waste from electrical and electronic equipment, has forced manufacturers to consider more eco-friendly designs enabling equipment to be recycled and reused. NWP is the first fully licensed facility in Northern Ireland to manage and process all categories of waste specified under the WEEE Directive. Based in Keady, what is unique about the NWP facility is that it has the capacity to deal with all the WEEE produced in Ireland which is on average 50,000 tonnes per annum.
Recycling of Category Three Animal By-Products
With the completion of a 1.75 million pound refurbishment to NWP’s Keady, NWP’s recycling service will include category three animal by-products. It is expected that when the installation of new technology is completed NWP will be the first fully compliant composting animal by-product facility in Northern Ireland. In many ways, the move towards using animal by-products for compost is the natural extension of NWP’s work to enable councils to facilitate households and catering facilities to dispose of organic kitchen waste more effectively.
